Mexico vs Venezuela
Mexico pulled out a hard fought victory over Venezuela in front of 40,128 at Reliant Stadium. The friendly was Mexico’s first game in Houston since their Gold Cup semifinal matchup against Honduras in 2011.
The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half, with Mexico’s best scoring chances coming in the 23rd and 25th minute, the best of those two coming when Oribe Peralta rattled the crossbar with a header.
Venezuela struck first in the second half, shocking the favored Mexican side and the crowd of mostly El Tri supporters. However it would be all Mexico from that point forward, as they tied the score in the 68th minute on a goal from Javier Aquino in the 68th minute. Mexico added back to back goals in the 88th and 89th minute to seal the victory and put away the feisty Venezuelan team for good.
